Average review: 4.0/5.0 (5 reviews) The production is thoughtful, solid, well-crafted, esp on the original and Morel mixes...across the board a nice spectrum of styles, but I'd like to see even more flexibility in the way of interpretation. The political & social content doesn't bother me, actually, it's quite provacative. There are a great many "message" songs that transcend the boundaries of the dance floor and airwaves; you don't have to listen to mindless crap all the time, unless you're opposed to expanding your horizons. I've heard top ten pop songs that are completely inept when it comes to production and content, yet the "success' of the song seems to hinder on the fast-food trailer-park tastes of the comatose masses...go figure. Not everyone is an idiot, however, musically or otherwise...so if you can look at things with more artistic or intellectual flexibility than say, someone like George W Bush, you might be able to appreciate this. Amazing track! one of the most important singles to come along in a while.. finally someone is noticing and saying how screwed up the American culture has become. My favorite is the matt moss mix.. really cool LOVE the original and Richard Morel mixes too (m.m., 7/18/2007 see all my reviews >> )
I don't like the song, but I bought it just for the cover. Love furry forearms! Yumm-O! (J.P., 7/14/2007 see all my reviews >> )
If you like your dance music with a message, you will probably like this. If not, you may wish to pass on it. The two best versions of "American Idle" are probably the Original Subversive Version and the Morel Pink Noise Dub. Three and a half stars. (W.A., 7/12/2007 see all my reviews >> )
If your looking for politcal comment...read a newspaper or magazine, pass on the song. Maybe if they had some interesting production. (J.L., 8/2/2007 see all my reviews >> )
